Sapele is a light hardwood from tropical Africa with a golden to dark reddish brown color, which we painted black to produce a different and striking look. A close relative of mahogany, its grain is interlocked, and has a uniform texture and good natural luster.
The neck and fingerboard of the NUS310 Blackbird are made from African okoume and composite wood. Composite wood is an eco-friendly material, which is increasingly used in instrument making, because it helps to preserve tropical rainforests.
Flight has changed the nut to high-quality black pps one, so that everything on this ukulele stays black.
