About This Ukulele Chord Finder

Our free ukulele chord finder shows you exactly how to play any chord on your ukulele. With clear fingering diagrams and fret numbers, you'll learn new chords quickly and confidently. This tool includes all the essential chords you need to play thousands of songs.

Essential Ukulele Chords for Beginners

If you're just starting out, focus on these chords first: C, G, Am, and F. With just these four chords, you can play hundreds of popular songs. The C chord is often the first chord beginners learn because it only requires one finger. Once you're comfortable with these, add D, E, and A to expand your repertoire.

How to Read Ukulele Chord Diagrams

Chord diagrams show the ukulele fretboard as if you're looking at it face-on. The four vertical lines represent the four strings (G-C-E-A from left to right). The horizontal lines are frets. Dots show where to place your fingers, and the numbers indicate which fret to press. A "0" means play the string open (without pressing any fret).

Chord Types Explained

  • Major chords (C, G, D, etc.) sound happy and bright — the foundation of most songs
  • Minor chords (Am, Em, Dm, etc.) sound sad or melancholic — add emotional depth to music
  • 7th chords (G7, C7, etc.) add a jazzy, bluesy feel — great for transitions and endings

Tips for Learning New Chords

Practice switching between chords slowly at first, focusing on clean finger placement. Use a metronome to build speed gradually. Many songs use the same chord progressions, so once you master common transitions like C to G or Am to F, you'll be able to play many songs.
